Contemplative Outreach presents Introduction to Centering Prayer

December 14 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free – $10
Contemplative Outreach Centering Prayer Workshop

“We may think of prayer as thoughts or feelings expressed in words. But this is only one expression. In the Christian tradition, contemplative prayer is the opening of mind and heart to God, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions.” Thomas Keating

This one-day workshop is an introduction to the practice of Centering Prayer, a method of silent prayer designed to help us prepare to receive the gift of contemplation from God. It presents ancient Christian wisdom teachings in a clear, updated form.

This workshop is suitable for beginners with no experience whatsoever, and is also beneficial to experienced practitioners who would like a refresher on the foundations of their contemplative prayer life.

The day will include instruction on the theological basis of Centering Prayer, its development and history, practical instructions on method, the opportunity to practice this silent form of prayer, and plenty of time for questions and strategies to develop a personal practice.

Please bring a journal or notepad. Lunch will be provided. Suggested donation $10.00.

Copies of Father Keating’s book Open Mind, Open Heart will be available for purchase.

Advent can often be a time when the secular world erupts into busy-ness and distraction.  Here is a chance to enter into the sacred aspects of this season before Christmas.   Come take a breath and join us for a silent method of prayer.
