– Hi, I’m Bishop Brian. I want to bring you Easter greeting in Easter 2021. This year, as we gather to celebrate Easter, my mind goes to Psalm 62 and a verse in Psalm 62 that says “God has spoken, twice have I heard it. Power alone belongs to God.” The celebration of Easter, the celebration of resurrection is a chance for us to see how God handles and uses power. God handles and uses power to raise Jesus from the dead, to say that in the resurrection, God’s love has overcome human violence and the pain of the world. When you and I try to handle power, so often it gets distorted, it gets used wrongly, it becomes demonic, it becomes used against others. You and I are not called to handle power, we’re called to handle authority, given to us by God who knows how to handle power and is the source of true power, loving, nonviolent power seen through the cross of Jesus and the empty tomb. So this year as we celebrate Easter, as we proclaim resurrection, we do so with that continued admission and confession and really kind of celebration that God is the source of power. God is called to handle power. You and I are called to care for each other, to care for those who need to hear this word and to understand our call is not to handle power but the authority given to us by God through Jesus to proclaim good news, to serve each other under that authority, under that delightful reign of God raised Jesus and now living forever in eternity with us. Happy and blessed Easter.
