Norwalk, Connecticut, April 2023 — The Association of Anglican Musicians is pleased to award the inaugural James Litton Grant for Choral Training to Nick Andrews, Organist/Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Mr. Andrews will use the grant to study with well-known organist and choral director, Frank Boles. In addition to the mentorship with Mr. Boles, Andrews will attend one of Royal School of Church Music America’s Summer Choral Residencies, as well as site visits to other established chorister programs. Nick writes: “I am honored to be the recipient of the James Litton Grant for Choral Training and excited to have AAM member Frank Boles serve as my mentor and work with me onsite at my parish.”
The James Litton Grant for Choral Training honors the late James Litton, one of the co-founders of the Association of Anglican Musicians. Its purpose is to aid musicians in developing their own choir training skills, building a chorister program for young singers, or for another endeavor which lives into the spirit of creating excellent choral experiences within the Episcopal Church. Deborah Purdon, daughter of Mr. Litton, writes: “My brothers and I are so pleased that our father’s legacy will continue through Nick Andrews’ work and the skills that he and his choir members will gain through the James Litton Grant for Choral Training. We are also thrilled that Nick will be studying with Frank Boles, who was Organist and Choir Director under our father at Trinity Church, Princeton, NJ, in the late 1970s.” The Litton Grant is an annual program for which contributions may be made to www.anglicanmusicians.org/litton
