– Hi, I’m Bishop Brian. I want to tell you today about who’s on first, what’s on second with the diocesan staff. The end of August Laura Nichols retired as my executive assistant. She did a great job for 16 years, serving Bishop vonRosenberg, Bishop Young, and now me. We are excited to see what’s next for Laura in her retirement.
So we had hired Jon Humber in July thinking Jon would serve for us a parish support specialist. The first person you’d see in the building, working directly to support parish ministry on the ground in our churches. However, as Jon has joined our staff, we realize in many ways he has the skillset we need for a new position, the episcopal engagement specialist. When you come into the building, Jon will be in the office where you used to see Laura Nichols, but while it’s the same office, in many ways it’s a new position, really supporting Canon Bolt as much as me in my work. The idea of episcopal engagement specialist, with churches in transition, with matters of discipline, with matters of working with general convention and the church wide structure. So Jon is moving from first to second, if you will, in our lineup from parish support specialist to episcopal engagement specialist. We are excited to see him in this role.
We know that later in the fall we will post the position again for parish support specialist. But at this point, know that we’re excited about this team that we’ve put together. Grateful for Laura Nichols and her great, great work over the years in supporting this work and really ushering in Jon Humber for success as she got him prepared and onboarded him in this work. So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the ways in which you support and pray for diocesan staff, for clergy lay leadership in our parishes. And the next time you’re in the building, come and say hello to Jon Humber in this new role of episcopal engagement specialist. Thank you.
