Daily Office

The Daily Office is a cycle of daily prayer that structures private and corporate devotion in the Episcopal Church. It is used throughout the Anglican Communion and is descended from the longer tradition of the Divine Hours, the monastic cycle of prayers. The Daily Office is anchored in the liturgies of Morning and Evening Prayer with the smaller offices of Noonday Prayer and Compline augmenting the cycle. 

The Daily Office remains a central element to Anglican identity. Through the two-year cycle of readings, the Daily Office transports worshippers through some of the most essential texts of scripture, providing an strong scriptural grounding when used regularly. 

Whether practiced together with other worshippers or on your own, the Daily Office is a wonderful practice to take up at any time whenever the urge to prayer calls. 

At the East Tennessee Diocesan House, we gather each Wednesday at 9:30 AM in person and online for Morning Prayer. Diocesan staff and visitors gather for half an hour for Morning Prayer with a reflection and time for prayer before the day begins.
