The Sacred Ordinary: 30 Days of Center Prayer

The Magi traveled far expecting to find a king in a palace. Instead, they found God in the most ordinary of places—a manger, a small-town family, a crying baby.
Epiphany teaches us that the divine doesn’t wait for extraordinary moments. God inhabits our everyday lives: morning coffee, traffic jams, conversations with neighbors, the laundry in the hamper.
This Epiphany season, we’re offering a 30-day Centering Prayer practice called The Sacred Ordinary. Beginning January 11, we’ll gather weekly online at 7:00 pm for 20 minutes of silence together. Each day, you will receive an invitation to sit in the presence of God, along with some words of encouragement along the way.
What is centering prayer?
It’s an ancient Christian contemplative practice—beautifully simple. You sit in silence, choose a sacred word, and gently return to it when thoughts arise (which they will, constantly). That’s it. No performance. No achieving. No striving. Just showing up.
What to expect:
You probably won’t feel peaceful. You might feel bored or restless. This is completely normal. Centering prayer isn’t about achieving a special state—it’s about faithfulness to ordinary practice, discovering that every moment of your life is sacred ground.
Details:
- Begins: Sunday, January 11, 2026
- Duration: 30 days
- Time commitment: 20 minutes daily
- Meeting times: We will meet Sundays at 7:00-7:30
- Cost: Free
- Experience required: None
You don’t need to be “spiritual.” You don’t need experience with prayer or meditation. You just need 20 minutes and willingness to sit in stillness with God. This practice won’t take you out of ordinary life—it will teach you that ordinary life, all of it, is where the Sacred dwells.
