Join clergy and lay leaders across the diocese for a one-day workshop on leading a Bible study group. This session, co-led by Canon Emily Bruner-Doane and the Rev. Claire Brown, will equip participants with practical resources, facilitation practices, and more. Whether you’re an experienced facilitator or exploring a new call to start a Bible study in your parish, you’ll find new energy, connect with like-minded leaders, and develop your skills to lead and teach God’s word.

This workshop is open for lay and clergy participants ages 14 and up. The cost to attend is $10 (you may pay online or bring cash or check to the event). Lunch, snacks, and coffee will be provided. Please indicate any need for childcare in the registration portal.

About the Workshop Facilitators

After living in many states and being a member of lots of parishes over the last 28 years, Canon Emily was very grateful to return to her hometown here in East Tennessee. Before her work with the diocese, she worked as an ESL program coordinator, developing educational programming for immigrant and refugee students. She has also held lay leadership positions in Christian formation for children and adults. In her free time, she loves being involved with her parish community and doesn’t miss a parish potluck! She also loves tending her garden with her husband Matthew, propagating plants in her greenhouse, and playing a little guitar now and then. She travels to Wisconsin to visit her son Sam, an Episcopal priest, his wife Lauren, and adorable grandson, Woody, every chance she gets.

The Rev. Claire Brown serves as rector of St. Paul’s in Athens. She is a graduate of Lee University, Vanderbilt Divinity School, the School of Theology at Sewanee, and has been trained as a retreat leader and spiritual director through the Shalem Institute and Still Harbor. Claire is married to Austin Sauerbrei, and they have three children.
