In 2024, the convention of the Diocese of East Tennessee voted to uphold General Convention resolution A087 with a goal of diocesan-wide carbon neutrality by 2030. Since that time, our primary focus has been to increase the efficiency of the diocesan house to achieve neutrality in our diocesan operations. Numerous tasks have been completed: LED light conversion, motion sensors, timers, HVAC replacement, and solar panels. At our latest diocesan convention, the Carbon Neutral Task Force held a blower test demonstration at the diocesan house. In that study, it was revealed that the diocesan house suffers from an unusually high ACH rate (the number of air changes per hour). After a quick infrared test to verify suspicions, it was determined that the insulation in the attic was the main source of the inefficiency.
In response, we are partnering with Koala Insulation to remove the older fiberglass and install open cell foam in the attic. This process will take approximately one week to complete and will begin on Monday, April 20. Staff and visitors will not be allowed in the building during the work as there will be hazards to health during the installation of the foam. The diocesan staff will be available via phone and email during this time. You may call 865-966-2110 or visit our contact page to find the corresponding information for the staffer you wish to reach.
The diocesan house will reopen on Monday, April 27, at 8:30 AM for normal business hours. Should you have any questions about this project, please contact Bro. Andrew at amorehead@dioet.org.
